Health care careers still in high demand

Tidewater_nursingAs Baby Boomers age, the health care system is facing greater demands, creating more health care career opportunities. According to the Center for Health Workforce Studies at the State University of New York in Albany, jobs in health care grew while jobs in other sectors declined during the Great Recession. Post-recession growth in health care jobs is expected to be in the neighborhood of 30 percent by 2020.

If you’re ready for a health care career, Tidewater Community College should be your first choice. At TCC you will find fast-paced, rigorous programs designed to fully engage students in hands-on activities. In addition to classroom hours, students gain clinical experience at area hospitals, treatment centers and labs.

The dedication of teaching staff and students pays off in high pass rates for national certification exams and job offers. Many of these programs are particularly attractive to members of the military with medical training who are transitioning to civilian careers.

If you want to work in health care and have good computer skills, but prefer not to work in direct patient care, then Health Information Management or Electronic Health Records System Consulting may be for you. They combine three careers in one: computer science, business and medical science.

Three health professions programs – Emergency Medical Services, Phlebotomy and Certified Nurse Aide – are open enrollment. Admission to most of the other TCC health care programs is competitive. Our programs could be for you if:

  • You are a high school graduate or have a GED
  • You are strong in science and math
  • You excel in the completion of pre-requisites.
