Fred Konzelmann, 33, of Virginia Beach holds TCC associate degrees in industrial manufacturing and electronics technology and a certificate in general education. He is a manufacturing design engineer at STIHL Inc., the top U.S. manufacturer of outdoor power equipment.
I chose TCC because it is a highly accredited community college that offered a wide range of courses at times that a father and full-time employee could manage. TCC has helped me develop a solid educational foundation to advance in a skilled and competitive work environment.
My academic experience was very positive with high educational standards from the professors and technology of the facility. Most professors who I encountered had a doctorate or a tremendous amount of real-world experience in the course they taught. Experience means a lot when it comes to the ability to teach, ensure student comprehension of course material, and provide examples found in industry.
Some professors in specialized fields such as electronics, are involved in research, which tells me that they are up to date on the newest technologies. The facility is very modern and clean. Laboratories and equipment have all the latest amenities, technology and staff who can guide you in the learning objectives.
Here’s what I would tell a future student: Sit at the front of the class, understand the difference between studying and just doing your homework, and get involved in your field of study through internships or employment to see how your education pertains to the real world.
