Just 1 or 2 courses may be all you need
If you want to get into the information technology field, or advance in your current IT career, an industry credential can be your ticket to success.
No matter the field you work in – business, health care, government – a certification, or a combination of certifications, validates your skills and knowledge.
Tidewater Community College offers IT courses that will prepare you for some of the most in-demand certifications such as Security+, Cisco CCNA and Windows MCSA. You can prepare for some of these certifications with just a few courses.
Employment in computer and information technology occupations is projected to grow 12 percent from 2014 to 2024, faster than the average for all occupations, according to the U.S. Department of Labor.
These occupations are expected to add about 488,500 jobs, due in part to a greater emphasis on cybersecurity, cloud computing and virtualization, and the continued demand for mobile programming and application development.
“Careers for majors in this field continue to be promising as there is a high demand and need for IT professionals,” said Bill Clement, dean of Information Technology and Business at TCC’s Virginia Beach Campus. “Students can be assured that with the course work and hands-on training they receive at TCC, combined with the guidance and expertise of faculty and staff, they will be well-prepared for their post-graduation experience.”
Bonus: TCC partners with many of the certification organizations, meaning you can save money on examination fees and preparation materials. (Because some of these exams are quite expensive!)
Double bonus: While preparing for the certification exams, you’ll be earning college credit, which you can apply toward an associate degree or certificate. TCC’s instructors are industry professionals who can give you the real-world experience you will need.
